Introducing Keys In Motion Piano Studio
Keys In Motion Piano Studio offers piano instruction and lessons to students of all ages and levels of experience. The Studio is located in Doylestown, PA, and is equipped with 2 lovely grand pianos and a Yamaha digital keyboard.
Keys In Motion is a privately owned studio offering private piano lessons and group Musicianship classes, as well as many other activities designed to enhance the study of music and engage the student in the process of learning to play piano, reading music, performing, and making music with others.
Kathy Dykstra, the teacher and owner, is a highly qualified teacher with 25+ years of teaching experience, as well as years of training in piano pedagogy at Rider University/Westminster Conservatory, MTNA and NCKP yearly national conferences, and Master classes.
Focusing on the individual learning styles of each student, she works with the student’s strengths to build a solid foundation in the areas of reading music, building technical skills, understanding music theory and musical style, and ear training.
In addition to the private piano lesson, students are encouraged to participate in monthly Group Musicianship/Performance classes which take place at the Studio with other students of the same age and ability level.
The class includes playing repertoire for one another, active listening, music theory games and challenges, and the introduction of new concepts in the group setting. Music history and style, composition, improvisation, ear training, and ensemble playing are other areas covered in the group setting. Students encourage and motivate one another and appreciate the opportunity to play their pieces in a relaxed setting, as well as hear the music other students are playing.
Keys In Motion also offers the student the opportunity to participate in yearly Evaluations and testing through Piano Guild, MTNA and other piano teacher organizations in the area. Students in the past have participated in Master classes playing for master teachers and composers such as Robert Vandall and Catherine Rollin.
Working with each student’s abilities and preferences, Mrs. Dykstra develops a yearly plan of activities and goals to engage the student and enhance their study of music. The well-rounded musician who is actively engaged and enjoys making music at the piano is the ultimate goal of piano study with Keys In Motion Piano Studio!
